Vocal Tips 1–Take a Lesson
Regardless of whether you’ve had extensive training previously, it is often advantageous to get fresh, objective instruction. Perhaps you’ve slacked off on your breathing exercises, or fallen into poor vocal habits. Call your previous trainer and schedule a “tune-up” lesson. Vocal Tips 2–Mix it Up
If you have been focusing exclusively on one technique or particular song, try something different. Pull out one of your preferred recordings from high school and sing along with it. Review the basics and make sure you are still using good posture, breath support, plus tone placement. Check for any unwanted tension, particularly in the face and neck, as this may detract from your sound and make the joy of singing less enjoyable.

Start each practice session and performance warm-up with simple stretching and relaxation exercises. One simple relaxation exercise is the “rag doll”. If you have a busy performance schedule, you might have gotten out of your usual fitness schedule. In case you are doing a tour, the majority hotels have workout facilities; if not, simply take a stroll. If the weather is inclement or you are in an unfamiliar town, you can actually walk in the hotel hallways. Unless you’re toting gear, use stairs as opposed to elevators.

Spend some time in a hot tub, get a professional rubdown, treat yourself to a favorite dessert, or re-read a favorite paperback. Indulge in some small luxury; it does not have to be expensive.
Vocal Tips 7–Have a Jam Session
Get a group of musician friends together for a casual jam session and play a number of old favorites. Stay away from performance material and simply have fun! You may want to include an informal dinner, and invite everybody to bring part of the meal so no one has to carry out all the work.
“Wait a minute,” chances are you’ll be thinking. “So far, only half of these so-called ‘singing tips’ include actual singing!” That’s right, but think of it this way: each time a guitar gets tough to tune, you replace the strings. Each time a piano gets out of tune, you call in a tuner. As a singer, your instrument is your body. When your voice gets out of tune, it is advisable to carry out the proper maintenance.
