Learning Singing Tips And Techniques

The goal of learning singing tips and techniques is not just for people who want to be famous.  Many people want to improve their singing skills for pure personal satisfaction or just to improve their health.  Although having a great voice can get you noticed, singing is also a fun personal hobby to engage in as well.

Why Singing is a Great Hobby

Stand Up Straight

It is really important to work on your posture when you are learning signing techniques.  Your feet should be as wide as your shoulders with one just a bit in front of the other.  This position enables you to breath easy and maximize your lung capacity.  Your shoulders should be back and down with your chest high so there is ample room for your lungs to expand.

The ability of air flowing freely in and out is directly affected by posture.  Proper posture also makes it much easier to actually initiate sound because when your body is properly aligned there is no unnecessary tension.  Practicing your posture in front of a mirror will help you with your singing and it will prevent stress on your body as well as improve circulation.

Project Your Voice

Voice projection is another important learning singing technique to work on.  It is the strength behind the voice being loud and clear.  Mastering projection demands attention and respect and it requires proper breathing technique.  A properly projected voice does not come from the lungs but rather from the diaphragm expanding.  Remembering your proper stance will help with projection as it promotes balance and improves your breathing.

Learn to Breathe

Breathing is one of the most important learning singing techniques.  Proper breath accounts for 80 percent of correct singing.  When you breathe in, you want to fill up your lungs from your diaphragm and then upward.  Your diaphragm is much more controllable and powerful than your chest muscles.

There are three stages to natural breathing being breathing in, breathing out and resting.  However, there are actually four stages to singing breathing being the inhalation, suspension, controlled exhalation and recovery.  Normal breathing is uncontrolled while singing breathing is controlled.  Once you condition your muscles you will eventually be able to abandon conscious control.

Vibrato

Vibrato is a sustained note that wavers consistently and quickly between a lower pitch and a higher pitch,  it is a pulse in a sustained tone.   Sometimes it occurs naturally due to a relaxed voice and proper breathing and other times it needs to be practiced and achieved through various methods.  Ranges of vibrato include shallow, delicate, rich and deep.
